Peridot is an ancient stone with a rich esoteric history. Nearly all ancient peridot came from Zabargad, a volcanic island in the Red Sea. Egyptian lore believes that the stone was made from rays of the sun. Some Historians and gemologists believe that many of Cleopatra's stones in her famous "emerald" collection were actually peridot's instead due to historical inaccuracy of distinguishing between the two.
